Poster Now Available for Math Awareness Month

Thursday January 10, 2008
Math Awareness Month occurs during the month of April; although Math Awareness began in America, it is beginning to be celebrated on an international level - to some extent. Although it isn't until April, your involvement and preparation for the activities is needed now. You'll find the poster here. The theme for 2008 is 'Math and Voting'. After all, it's a presedential year so it does seem fitting to focus on the statistics behind voting.

Math Awareness month began in 1986 when President Ronald Regan official declared April as Math Awareness Month. Each year a theme is selected and participation in mathematical activities occurs throughout schools, communities, businesses and even at home. It is sponsored by the Joint Policy Board for Mathematics (AMS/MAA/SIAM) to enhance awareness in math and science - especially young people and is done through a variety of events and activities usually sponsored by universities and colleges. Although the activities aren't yet posted on the Math Awareness Site, they will be soon, so check back frequently to take part this year.
