Record Size Prime Found by Ottawa Student

Wednesday September 17, 2008
Prime numbers are numbers that can not be divided by any other number, except themselves and one. Students as young as 7 learn about prime numbers and of course the rest of us find it fun to discover some of the larger prime numbers. This Ottawa student is sure to find himself in the record book for discovering the largest prime number yet. It's a whopper at 12.9 million digits long, which means it would fill nearly all seven of the Harry Potter books if you wrote it down! Read the full story about Jeff Gilchrist in the Ottawa Citizen.
