Attitudes About Math

Saturday February 21, 2009
I must admit, I had a little fun last week with various students in a few different grades. Instead of the traditional line about least and most favorite subjects, I decided to be a bit different. Instead, I asked if math were a food, what would it taste like? Well, doesn't this just tell all?
  • Just like liver and onions and I hate both!
  • A bit sweet and a bit sour.
  • Pizza! It's my favorite.
  • Like junk food 'cause when are we going to use this stuff?
  • Just like fish, isn't that brain food?
Quite the enlightening responses, don't you think? And if you haven't quite had enough food and math, try the Math Potatoes to help the relucant math learners with some of the basics, a great resource to turn those negative attitudes about math around.

See also the myths of math. After all you really don't need that math gene!
