de Moivres Theorem
Monday June 8, 2009
deMoivre is a famous French born mathematician from the 1700s and like many famous mathematicians, he lived in poverty. He was a friend of Isaac Newton and was famous for his work with complex numbers, trigonometry and the theory of probability. As with many mathematicians, DeMoivre also has a theorem named after him. The de Moivre theorem links complex numbers and trigonometry. He is also considered one of the fathers of early Calculus.

It’s hard to imagine the countless hours these mathematicians spent proofing their formulas…the intestity, drve and compulsion is beyond the normal human being..their love for math has no bounds..and other interest are far and few between..
Hopefully it’s all taught by the beginning of the third undergraduate year, though. Lots of people make it the first try! (Not as a proportion, maybe, but lots!)
It’s tough sometimes; nobody feeding you complex numbers in news sources, negative numbers look fungible, hordes of people studying 0
