For some people, the phrase 'math problem' is a physical condition. The discomfort associated with performing tasks in math is not just in your head. In studies from  Cambridge and Oxford universities researchers are finding that those afflicted with math anxiety performed much worse on math problems. Interesting to note that girls were more likely to be affected by math anxiety then their male counterparts but the results for both male and females with math anxiety show no gender imbalance. Primary classroom students that show themselves to be 'worriers' can in many cases stay away from college level math courses.

Hi, maths makes me anxious, and when I’ve finished I have a stomach ache and feel hungry. Sounds like my adreniline is running! That’s arithmetic that does that, ie just adding up my tax return or matters like that. I do put off the day of reckoning until I’m feeling really well…
