Finding Support for the Common Core Standards (CCS)

By , About.com GuideSeptember 23, 2012

Follow me on:

The Common Core Standards is often confused with the term curriculum. Common Core Standards are what students are supposed to achieve by certain grades. How students will achieve the Common Core Standards remains to be seen and only time will tell.  Supports are being developed including, but not limited to:  A scope and sequence  from the CCS toolbox (revisions pending), a number of resources from North Carolina,  Hung-Hsi Wu from the Department of Mathematics at Berkley has put together a unique set of documents for researchers, mathematicians and educators, (some good reads)  New York as developed aligned tasks, Delaware has put together a few exemplars and Kentucky has developed a complete set of deconstructed standards

One thing remains certain, a tremendous amount of professional development for teachers will be essential for success.  If you have concerns about the standards, you're not alone and you may appreciate this article by Evan Walker. And, for those of you saying 'this too shall pass', it won't be anytime soon.

I am extremely inspired together with your writing abilities and
also with the structure to your weblog. Is this a paid
theme or did you customize it your self? Either way stay up the nice quality writing, it is uncommon to see a nice blog like this one
nowadays..
