I'm not sure I ever thought of birds as being math inclined. Do math skills somehow evolve independently in birds and primates? Apparently so! According to this study pigeons can not only discriminate quantities, they can also learn abstract mathematical concepts. It is surprising when you look around to see where those math abililties are!
