Exercise Your Place Value

By January 10, 2013

Place value is an area of misconception and confusion for many young learners. Why? Well, most of us forgot how we learned place value, thus, it's often difficult to relate to. However, in a nutshell, we teach students the value of one through nine. Then, we go and change it up when 9 no longer represents 9 ones in a number like 943,231.  Now, we tell them that 9 means something else, something much bigger and that's where the confusion begins.  The things that make them go 'huh'.  Here's a set of exercises about place value and if there are struggles, it's time to back up.
