D. Russell
Definition: Annulus is actually a latin term meaning little ring. The annulus is the area between two concentric circles which lie in the same plane. The area between the two black circles in the image is the annulus. The area of the annulus can be calculated by subtracting the area of the hole (inner circle) from the area of the overall disk (outer circle).
Examples:
Any flat ringed shaped object is also an annulus.
