Fear Of Math Often Stems from Attitude

Thursday March 22, 2007
I don't know how many students I've come across that believe they are bad in math or just can't do math. A good tutor or teacher will immediately start to promote a 'can do attitude' and enhance their confidence level by starting with getting students to believe in themselves. I always tell my students:
You can do this, it's just that nobody has taken the time to show you in a method that you understand. You're too smart to let fear of math get in the way, let's tackle it together and you'll see that you CAN do it."
From now on, whenever you're helping or teaching math, do everything you can to support positive attitudes, that in itself will lead to greater success. Read more about math anxiety and how you can relieve it.
