The use of mammography x-ray for breast cancer detection has received some greater scrutiny over its effectiveness, (false positives and false negatives) however, it remains the most popular choice to date. New research (SIAM Journal on Applied Mathematics) is looking promising at another method that may not only be more effective but also more economical. It uses a mathematical model for imaging tumors in the breast using microwave tomography. See the full story in Science Daily.
