Still swallowing the notion that the children of this nation will benefit from a set of standards and assessments driven by corporate interests?
That it’s good for kids to expect every child to know x by age/grade y? Only a factory-owner could fall for the anti-child analysis that has informed the development of the so-called “Common Core State [sic] Standards.”
Major educational groups like the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and the National Council of Teachers of English have failed to do due diligence in criticizing these “standards.” States have been bullied and bribed into accepting this particular piece of the corporate dream.
It’s time to stop buying this nonsense and start being realistic about just how meaningless (and expensive) it is going to be. Ten years from now, the same complaints about the “failure” of US education will be leveled by politicians and pundits. The blame will fall squarely, not on those who created the mess, but on teachers and administrators for “failing” to work hard enough.
